Some of INVAP's first activities were developed specifically in the industrial area. Though later on the Nuclear and Space Divisions exceeded the Industrial Division in importance, a serious of relevant projects were still carried out. Even more, som ot these were the result of tasks performed in the frame of the Argentine Nuclear Plan, such as the production of metal Titanium.
In the past, the most relevant of these projects was the design, construction, startup and operation of a hazardous industrial waste treatment plant. The company, AILINCO S.A., was a joint venture of INVAP (major stockholder) and Danish funds.
In the early 1990s, safe disposal of industrial waste was an increasing problem, in part due to the lack of technological modern solutions. INVAP was cleary prepared to deal with this problem, and as a result, Ailinco S.A. was established in the Industrial Area of Zarate, Provincia de Buenos Aires, soon becoming the most advanced waste treatment facility of Argentina.
The investment was largely financed by the European Bank of Investements, a inversión fue financiada en gran parte por el Banco Europeo de Inversiones and the local Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. The construction was finished according to schedule and started to operate in 1997. Technicians and professionals from INVAP were in charge of the General and Technical Managment until 1999, when Hera Holding of Spain, a group of companies specialized in hazardous waste treatment, bought Ailinco, now Hera Ailinco S.A.
Another important project in the industrial area has been the design, construction and start-up of the equipment required to manufacture products of Petroplastic S.A., a company supplying accesories for the Oil Industry, located in Junin de los Andes, Province of Neuquén. Among other developments, this company produces -following strict international standards - pipes and accesorios of glass reinforced epoxi to supply the main oil explotation companies operating in Argentina.
