So far, INVAP’s most demanding venture in radar technology is its participation in the electronics of Argentina’s space-based Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR). These systems are under current development as a joint undertaking of INVAP and the National Commission for Space Activities (CONAE), the Argentine Radioastronomics Institute (IAR) and INVAP. The High Resolution Technology Demonstration Camera (HRTC) is panchromatic.  It only distinguishes illumination intensities, in a spectrum between violet and red (400 and 900 nm).  Compared to the MMRS, the HRTC it covers a smaller area, with a ground resolution of 90 km.

When the SAC-C completes its second orbit over Argentina, at 10:30 pm, it is usually dark at night.  In order not to waste this flight, the satellite carries a High Sensitivity Technical Camera (HSTC) that monitors a 700 km long area.  The camera is sensitive to a range of green to near infra red light, 450 nm to 850 nm.
