Radioisotope manufacturing

The main - or even the only function - of certain research reactors is the manufacturing of radioisotopes for pharmacological and industrial uses.  One of example of these is the Argentine Reactor (RA)-3, built by the CNEA at the Ezeiza Atomic Center (Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina).  The OPAL Reactor built by INVAP in Australia, is a radioisotope production facility, though it is also used for research purposes.

In the 80s, wind generators had a power generation capacity of 50 kW each.  At the beginning of XXI Century, these generators are 100 times more powerful and much more efficient, as well as silent and long-lasting.

The expansion of the European wind market meant strong scale economies for all its components; this led to a reduction of costs from almost three thousand dollars per installed kW at the beginning of the 80s.

Wind power has been used for five thousand years, when sail navigation started.  During the XVII Century a “technological transfer” from the sea to the ground took place in Holland – which was at the time a navy power.  It was at this moment that wing-profile blades for mills were invented.
