A model technological compan in the region, INVAP exports its products to all the world. Research nuclear reactors, satellites and radars are only a few of its recent accomplishments. DEF travelled to Bariloche to know first hand how it is to make technology in our country.

The room is about 30 meters long and three stories high. It is sorrounded by pure white walls only interrupted by thick glass windows, through which now and then casual onlookers show their faces. A giant crane hangs from the ceiling, and from the floor - also completely white - a scaffolding structure holds two copper-colored panels.  In the center, a module which shape suggests it's made to travel beyond the limits of the atmosphere.

No, this is not a Kubrick's film set, though it could have been a perfect location for 2001: A Space Odyssey.  It is neither the NASA, because a large Argentine flag shows us that we are in some vernacular location.  This is the Satellite Integration Room of INVAP, a company that has been developing state of the art technology for more than 35 years, in different industrial, scientific and applied research fields, creating "technological packages" of high added value.

INVAP's last success was SAC-D/Aquarius, a scientific application satellite designed to measure ocean salinity, built in our country in cooperation with NASA, but the company's portfolio includes over a thousand projects successfully completed in the Nuclear, Space and Government, Industrial and Alternative Energies and Medical Systems fields.  Clients from Australia, Algeria, Brazil, USA, Egypt and Venezuela are only some of them.

A team of DEF Magazine reporters travelled to San Carlos de Bariloche to know first hand how it is to work in this company, unique in its field, not only for the complex products it develops but also for the quality of its human resources and the conditions under which the company works: though INVAP is a State-owned company, it is managed as a private company, that is, through its own projects and clients.  Besides its employees share part of its profits and have a seat in the Board of Directors occupied by an elected representative.
