The symposium – sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the American Nuclear Society \u2013 dealt with topics related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, the state of the nuclear programs within the Americas and new designs of nuclear reactors for electricity generation, research and radioisotope production.<\/p>\n
Special consideration was given to the debate on the benefits of nuclear technology on the environment, particularly with reference to the reduction in greenhouse gas emission.<\/p>\n
