From November 28 to December 2, the sixth edition of the Workshop on Signatures of Man-Made Isotope Production (WOSMIP) will be held in San Carlos de Bariloche. It has been organized by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and INVAP S.E. (an Argentine state-owned applied research company) together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, the Argentine National Commission of Atomic Energy (CNEA, in Spanish), and the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN, in Spanish).<\/p>\n
The main objective of the conference is to bring together experts all over the world from the Treaty monitoring and radioisotope production communities to understand the effects of CTBT’s emissions, radionuclides from nuclear facilities (radioxenon), and to explore means of increasing the Treaty verification capabilities without impacting the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
Another important aim of the meeting is to encourage the debate on methods for parameters measurement of events characterization and on monitoring criteria for radioxenon detection. This assessment is based on thorough understanding of the radioxenon in the atmosphere, taking account of all known sources and regional variations. The importance of carrying out this conference lies in seeking solutions to improve the relation between the increase in radioisotope production and the sensitivity of the environmental monitoring systems of the CTBTO.
Argentina is an important leader in the global market of Medical Isotope Production Facility (MIPF). Through INVAP, the country has exported plants to Egypt and India, and is now carrying out a very important project on a MIPF together with the USA.<\/p>\n
