Today, the winners of the III INVAP 2025 National Engineering Theses Contest were announced. At the ceremony held at the company\u2019s headquarters, in Bariloche, applied research projects in the engineering universe with a plurality of perspectives were highlighted.<\/p>\n

The contest that reflects the transformative power of technology in pursuit of enhancing the quality of people’s life received 162 theses from 16 provinces, with the participation of 47 institutions (both public and private) representing 35 different university careers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe participants represent a new generation that believes in creating value and sovereignty for Argentina and the rest of the world. And, this is part of our purpose and our DNA,\u201d pointed out Engineer Dar\u00edo Giussi, INVAP\u2019s General Manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for continuing to champion engineering as a tool for transforming reality. Let\u2019s keep building a better world through engineering and creativity,\u201d emphasized Ver\u00f3nica Garea, Institutional and Strategic Relations Manager and President of INVAP Foundation.<\/p>\n

The winners<\/p>\n

In the Undergraduate category, the jury awarded the work of Lucciano Elian Mannelli and Tiago Sarthou, graduates in Bioengineering at the Technological Institute of Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires city). The winning thesis is \u201cAugmented Reality Projection of Brain Tumors for Surgical Planning,\u201d which proposes developing and implementing a system that uses augmented reality (AR) to automatically segment and visualize brain tumors in 3D. The goal: to assist preoperative surgical planning at a lower cost than that of existing devices. \u201cIn this country, it is essential to promote science that helps millions of people \u2014 and it helps them a lot. This is sometimes overlooked,\u201d said Tiago, holding his diploma.<\/p>\n

Besides, in the Master\u2019s Degree category, the evaluation committee prized Gustavo Francisco Eichhorn, who holds a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Technology from the Sabato Institute dependent on the National University of San Mart\u00edn and the National Commission of Atomic Energy. \u201dInfluence of manufacturing parameters on residual stresses in carbon fiber-epoxy tubes\u201d is the winning thesis that studies the influence of process variables in the manufacture of carbon\/epoxy tubes using the filament winding (FW) method and their impact on residual stresses, providing a comprehensive theoretical framework. It also covers the experimental approach, which includes the manufacture of the tubes using the FW method.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the national level, it is important to raise awareness of the incredible research being carried out across all universities and institutes. It is key to the future,\u201d Gustavo said, moved.<\/p>\n

In the Doctorate category, Yamila Lorena de Charras, PhD in Chemical Engineering from the National University of the South (Province of Buenos Aires), was awarded. Her thesis \u201cStudy of design parameters in aerosol chambers for administering inhaled medications\u201d analyzes how different design parameters impact on the effectiveness of aerosol chambers used for the administration of inhalable drugs, by using a combination of mathematical modeling, CFD simulations, and experimental testing. It also presents design principles for air chambers (with an emphasis on the valve) and provides data to guide the selection of appropriate devices.<\/p>\n

Yamila received her diploma alongside her two-year-old son, Santino. Overcome with emotion, she thanked her family for their support: “Without them, and with such a little boy, it would have been impossible,” she said.<\/p>\n

Improving people\u2019s lives<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, the General Manager of INVAP, Engineer Dar\u00edo Giussi, pointed out that they received \u201cvery high-quality\u201d submissions focusing on the value of technology in practical applications that impact on people’s lives, which is in line with the company’s orientation. \u201cThat is one of the reasons why we promote this contest \u2014 because it channels the impact of technology at the service of people\u2019s lives. It shows that building sovereignty is possible when academia and industry work together.\u201d<\/p>\n

On another note, Garea added: “At INVAP, we are well aware of the talent at Argentine universities, and we want the whole world to know about it. Engineering plays a major role in the world\u2019s technological transformation. This contest aims to highlight this capability and strengthen the connection between academic training and the country\u2019s actual needs. Engineering not only brings innovation, it also has a social commitment and is a key tool for improving everyone’s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
