21-12-2007 – INVAP prequalifies for a new nuclear Reactor for Holland : The Dutch company Nuclear Research & Consultancy Group (NRG) has announced on December 18th that INVAP is one of the three companies prequalified to participate in the international tender to design and construct a new Research Reactor for Holland.

The Dutch company Nuclear Research & Consultancy Group (NRG) has announced on December 18th that INVAP is one of the three companies prequalified to participate in the international tender to design and construct a new Research Reactor for Holland.

The new reactor has been named PALLAS like its predecessor which it will replace in Petten, North Holland. It implies an investment of several hundred million Euros. Three companies have prequalified: one from France, one from South Korea, and INVAP.

The new PALLAS will be an open pool experimental reactor, with 30 to 80 Mw thermal power at the core and similar in complexity to the OPAL reactor in Australia. It will be used for the production of radioisotopes for medical purposes, the irradiation of Silicon for semiconductor devices and the testing and characterization of new materials and nuclear fuels. If awarded, its construction will be undertaken in collaboration with the spanish company ISOLUX INGENIERÍA S. A., which will be in charge of the civil construction works and the engineering, fabrication and assembly of the conventional componentes of the reactor.

This new opportunity to compete continues the successful international career of INVAP in the nuclear field. In 2007, besides working in several projects in Egypt, Australia, China, Algeria and Venezuela, INVAP signed new contracts with Romania, Poland and Libya and made a bid in Greece. We also wish to emphasize the continued cooperation with some companies in the USA. All these activities are performed in strict complyance with all international treaties and with the collaboration of the Argentine Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The tender for the construction of PALLAS will be made public early in 2008 and it is expected that its resolution and the contract with the winner will be signed before the end of that year.
