On May 9, INVAP signed a contract with Brazil –Fundación PATRIA and the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN, in Spanish)– to carry out the conceptual and basic design of the Radioisotope Production Facility complementing the Brazilian Multipurpose Reactor (RMB, in Spanish) project. This new stage consolidates INVAP’s participation in one of the most significant nuclear projects in Latin America.
The future plant aims to supply the Brazilian national demand for radioisotopes, which are strategic supplies to disease diagnosis and treatment as well as to industrial and research applications. This is a fundamental step towards Brazil’s self-sufficiency in this field, reducing its external dependence and strengthening its technological sovereignty.
For INVAP, this new contract is much more than an opportunity for technological development: it is the continuation of over a decade of joint work with Brazilian scientific and technical institutions. INVAP previously developed the basic and detailed engineering of the RMB reactor, and this new stage ratifies the mutual trust that has been built with the CNEN and the Brazilian nuclear community over the years.
With a proven track record in exporting technology and developing nuclear facilities for peaceful use worldwide, INVAP brings to the RMB its accumulated experience, a highly qualified team of professionals, and a collaborative work model oriented to technical excellence.
This initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to the scientific and technological development in the region and to providing access to high-quality healthcare solutions for Latin America. In a context where many countries face difficulties accessing radioisotopes for medical use in a timely and sustained manner, strengthening local capacities represents a concrete improvement in access to early diagnosis and advanced cancer treatments. Producing these critical supplies regionally reduces dependence on international suppliers and the risks associated with logistical disruptions. It also opens up commercial opportunities in the constantly growing Latin American market.
Participation in this type of strategic projects demonstrates the value that an Argentine company can contribute to the international scenario, and highlights our country’s capability to generate high-impact, applied knowledge.
