7 June 2013

On June 6, 2013, as part of the cycle of lectures “Science and You” organized by the medical care firm Medifé Foundation with the support of the INVAP (Applied Research Company), Fernando Lombardo, Ph. D. in physics, talked about “Physics and Time Travel” at the Center of Technical Studies Number 2 “Jorge Newbery”, in San Carlos de Bariloche. This educational institution celebrates this year its 60th anniversary.

The aim of this activity was to encourage students to become interested in a science career and to bring science and society closer together.

In his lecture, Dr. Lombardo tried to make the audience aware of the less common-sense features of time and space and to show how they affect our daily life. He also suggested that the audience imagined the possibility of travelling in space/time and answered questions such as these: Would you think it easier to travel to the past than to the future? What would you need to be a time traveler? Is humanity going in that direction?

Fernando Lombardo is professor at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA, in Spanish), member of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET, in Spanish) and commentator in the program “Scientifics Made in Argentina”, broadcast by a national television channel.
