In the context of the Conference ‘Educating to Develop’, Héctor Otheguy, M. Sc., General Manager & CEO of INVAP S.E. (an Argentine state-owned Applied Research Company), expounded on 23th July 2013 about ‘Knowledge and Companies.’ He shared the panel with Gustavo Bianchi, Ph. D., in charge of the Technology Area in National Oil Fields (YPF, in Spanish), and Víctor Trucco, Ph. D., from Bioceres, an agricultural biotechnology firm.
In his presentation, Otheguy explained INVAP’s characteristics, business areas and projects. He also dealt with the key factors in the management of the company, its advantages and the difficulties it faces. The Conference was intended for scholars specialized in science and technology that are part of the program Bec.Ar, consisting in scholarships to study in foreign countries. The goals of the Conference were to brief the participants on the main guidelines followed by the public and private scientific and technological Institutions in Argentina, and on the major challenges as regards science, technology and innovation that the country will have to meet in the near future. Being aware of these requirements and demands, the scholars will be able to focus the knowledge acquired abroad on the opportunities provided by the Argentine production system, thus increasing their chances to get a job when coming back.
The program Bec.Ar, developed by the National Cabinet, awards scholarships to study in a foreign country. It is supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Production Innovation, and is in line with other active policies adopted to strengthen the National System of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation in order to give solutions to actual social problems.
In this respect, one of the main objectives has been training, encouragement and promotion of highly skilled human resources. Efforts have been focused especially on priority areas according to the country’s social and production needs and opportunities.
Thanks to the Bec.Ar scholarships, Argentine professionals can specialize abroad in knowledge areas strategic to a sustainable development. It is a great opportunity to lay science and technology as the firm foundation for social and production growth of the country.
