On August 27, the Seminar “Science, Technology and Innovation: from progress to development” organized by the Argentine Development Foundation (DAR, in Spanish) was held in the city of Buenos Aires with the aim of evaluating what has been achieved by the National System of Science and Technology in the last 12 years and of laying down the broad guidelines that will allow Argentina to move toward the sustainable development.

 It was attended by Mr. Daniel Scioli, Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires; Dr. Lino Barañao, National Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation; and Dr. Cristian Breitenstein, Minister of Science and Technology of the Province of Buenos Aires. Renowned researchers, young scholars, officials of scientific organizations, rectors and deans of national universities and businessmen from all over the country also participated in the event.

It was organized in two thematic panels. In the first one, which turned around “Technology and Innovation”, there were presentations on the achievements of applied technological research organizations and technological companies. It was coordinated by Mr. Alberto Briozzo, Vice-President of the Scientific Research Commission. Lic. Héctor Otheguy, General Manager of INVAP S.E. (Argentine state-owned applied research company); Dr. Conrado Varotto, President of the Argentine National Space Activities Commission (CONAE, in Spanish); and Dr. Alberto Lamagna, Manager of the Research and Non-Nuclear Applications of the Argentine National Commission of Atomic Energy (CNEA, in Spanish) participated as lecturers.
